Compass INSPIRE ISO Compliance Toolkit

Compass Informatics has proven expertise in providing solutions supporting implementation of the EU INSPIRE Directive. We have now combined our suite of technology options into an INSPIRE ISO Compliance Toolkit. The Toolkit provides a complete solution for ensuring compliancy with ISO 19xxx and INSPIRE metadata, data and service standards, using largely open source technologies, integrating where required with proprietary solutions, branded to your organisation's look and feel.

Combining the technology options of the Toolkit with services from our INSPIRE Compliance Portfolio offers you access to additional support services or the option to outsource your SDI/INSPIRE compliance challenges to us more fully.

Toolkit Elements - Summary

:: Installation of open source software for metadata and network services, with proprietary software options where required

The INSPIRE ISO Toolkit is based around the use of open source components including GeoNetwork, GeoServer, MapServer, etc. By focussing on open source options, we minimise cost and allow budget to be used where it is needed most. Requirements to use open source solutions are also appearing in many governments’ recommendations for new IT system developments. Compass technical staff maintain an active ‘open source watch’ to follow developments in geospatial open source tools. Where existing investment is in proprietary solutions, e.g. ESRI, CadCorp, GeoMedia or others, we use our expertise in a range of proprietary software to build on your existing solutions.

:: Supply and installation of GeoNetwork metadata template for INSPIRE-compliant metadata

The open source GeoNetwork software is being adopted globally, for example by UN agencies, and is an excellent option for use as a metadata editor and for serving out your metadata to corporate or national geoportals. We can provide an INSPIRE-compliant metadata template for GeoNetwork which ensures that the metadata you prepare is in the required format and structure. Remember – in the 27 EU Member States, creating and publishing metadata for the INSPIRE Directive’s spatial data themes in the required format is now a legal requirement resulting from an EC Regulation effective since December 2009.

:: Web browser tools for assisting installation of software.

Our web tools provide a guide to software installation by your staff, or the Compass team can undertake all installation and support on a case by case basis.

:: Web browser tools for monitoring operation of software.

For peace of mind, the web-based tools monitor the operation of the metadata and network services/web services and provide appropriate alerts. Compass can provide a fully supported solution where required.

:: Hosting of solution

:: Hosting of solutions.

Using the services of our hardware infrastructure specialists, we will install and support all solutions on existing suitable infrastructure (servers with high-bandwidth web connectivity), or we can host on our own infrastructure.

Acquiring the INSPIRE ISO Compliance Toolkit

Because different users will have different levels of internal skills and resource availability, the Toolkit and Toolkit implementation related services are offered selectively. Typically, an organisation’s individual requirements are assessed during one of the activities offered in the INSPIRE Compliance Portfolio.
